Argentina's oil and gas sector faces some major challenges over the coming years, with the country currently forecast to become a net oil exporter by 2016 as rising consumption catches up with declining production. The country also faces mounting gas-import requirements, which could top 10bn cubic metres (bcm) by the end of the decade. That said, wise policymaking and investment could dramatically alter this outlook and help sustain the country's energy self-sufficiency.
