BMI View: Talks between the Algerian government, ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch Shell on shale exploration are a positive step towards the development of the nation's untapped potential. Shale represents a significant opportunity for the country's declining gas reserves outlook and the North African region has many competitive advantages likely to attract foreign investors. However, crucial questions such as environmental concerns, technology and regulation still need to be answered, which is why we have decided not to include shale in our forecasts.
