Exploration in a number of highly prospective basins is gathering pace as local operators seek to appraise and develop potentially vast reserves of unconventional oil and gas. The Goldwyer formation is one of the country's best hopes, holding 6.48tcm of estimated risked recoverable gas resources, according local independent New Standard Energy. As exploration kicks off with the company's phase-1 exploration programme, all eyes will be on the Canning Basin.
