BMI View: Statoil could be the next major firm to take advantage of a prospective play offshore Kenya, a move that would strengthen its presence in the growing East African upstream market. While Kenya's institutions and infrastructure could lower the cost of monetising its resources relative to its less developed neighbours Tanzania and Mozambique, the eruption of a maritime dispute in the waters where the offshore licenses are located could halt Kenya's offshore upstream development.
