The gas-rich state of Qatar yesterday provided a reminder of its continued importance as an oil producer and core member of OPEC. The country stated that it aims to increase its crude oil production capacity by 300,000 barrels a day (b/d) by 2009, from the current 800,000b/d, Qatari Oil Minister Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiya said at a conference in Jordan.
