In Amenas Adds To BP Gas Export Business

In Amenas, one of a number of gas projects under development in Algeria, has come onstream and is expected to begin producing some 9bn cubic metres (bcm) of gas per year in couple of months time. The project, operated by a joint venture between national oil company Sonatrach, UK oil major BP and Norway's state-controlled group Statoil, will help realise the Algerian government's ambitious gas production targets, raising the country's existing output of 65bcm. The country is a heavy gas exporter and intends to increase the share of output available for transportation
