Kazakh Business Environment Dented By PSA Legislation
January 2006 | Contract NewsChinese oil services firm China Oilfield Services (COSL) is to collaborate with Iranian oil firm North Drilling Company on projects in Kazakhstan after signing a US$33mn, three-year contract. The combination of Iranian and Chinese expertise going to work on Kazakhstan concessions reflects a growing willingness by foreign firms to spread investment risk by joint development work. Kazakhstan's operating environment, though still attractive when compared to its regional peers, has suffered some dents over recent months with legislative changes empowering the state in oil and gas dealings.
