The Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with a cohort of leading industry officials, is visiting China to promote trade links between the two countries. An integral part of negotiations during the visit is energy co-operation, with a number of pipeline projects under consideration that would transport Russia gas to the Chinese market. The importance of Putin's visit cannot be underestimated. It is a highly publicised show of solidarity between the Eurasian giant and its Asian counterpart.
