Azerbaijan's national oil firm has to tackle a number of problems if it is to see sustained investment and volume growth. The country has tremendous oil and gas potential and, as the government-controlled vehicle, Socar should have no problem in accessing the best exploration concessions. However, the firm relies heavily upon outside capital and investment for development work.
