Gazprom Plans Boost Turkish Conduit Ambitions

Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has raised the possibility of building another pipeline under the Black Sea to complement the existing Blue Stream structure. Russia already supplies most of Turkey's gas, with the latter functioning largely as middle-man in being a transit point for gas heading to third countries, exploiting its strategic location straddling Asia and Europe. It also gets gas from Iran through another pipeline and is set to benefit from the recently inaugurated Baku-Tibilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. Additional capacity to transport Russian hydrocarbons to southern Europe will add to this growing role as Europe's energy supply
