Malaysian Gas Still Going Strong
March 2006 | Project NewsMalaysian national energy firm Petronas has just made a new gas discovery offshore Sarawak, raising hopes that the surrounding area will also yield new gas reserves, needed if the Asian country is to fulfil its ambitious gas, especially LNG, export plans. Indeed, the country already provides some 15% of the world's total LNG exports, a percentage that should grow over the next few years as capacity expands. Malaysia's current gas reserves stand at 2460bn cubic metres (bcm), while exports hover around 34bcm. By the end of the decade, BMI forecasts gas exports will have nearly doubled to 62bcm, while
