National Champion To Rescue Brazil From Imports

The Brazilian government is continuing a push for energy investment to drive domestic production. The country's hydrocarbons regulator is to start an eighth round of exploration licensing tenders this November, following on from the October 2005 round and indicating a determination to attract more international oil companies (IOCs) to the market. The government presumably hopes to take some of the pressure off national oil firm Petrobras, although the company is regarded as one of the most successful state-run enterprises in the Latin American region.
