Endesa Saga Casts Shadow Over Strong Figures

Spanish utility Gas Natural has posted a strong set of results on the back of increased electricity generation capacity and a healthy performance from its gas distribution business. The firm saw Q206 net profit increase by 38% y-o-y to reach EUR179.1mn (US$226.3mn) from sales of EUR2.3bn (US$2.91bn). However, looming over these results was the continuing Endesa takeover saga. While management will be pleased with the uptick in earnings, they will still be concerned over the takeover battle with German utility E.ON.
