Coping With Competition
August 2006 | Company SpotlightKorea Gas Corporation (Kogas) has dominated the South Korean gas sector since the company was formed in 1983, but it now faces the twin challenges of securing new supplies and coping with market liberalisation. Seoul lifted Kogas' domestic monopoly on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) last year and the state-controlled company now has to cope with operating in a more competitive environment. However, there are reasons to believe that it will retain its dominant position in the South Korean market, at least over the short-term.
