Oil Sands Open To National Oil Companies

Alberta Energy Minister Greg Melchin has stated in an interview with Dow Jones that the province would permit national oil companies (NOCs) to invest in the province's oil sands deposits. The statement represents a de facto shift in policy by the regulators, who had previously been wary of NOCs. However, given Canada's strong regulatory environment, BMI concurs with the minister that the apparent risk associated with such investment is limited.
