September 2006 | Industry NewsEuropean consumers are approaching winter with confidence as meteorologists predict much more comfortable weather patterns and wholesale gas prices trend downwards. Last winter, freezing cold Siberian winds made temperatures plummet throughout the continent, boosting demand and pushing up prices. Half-way through this bleak period, at the start of 2006, fears over security of supply prompted further price increases and caused political and public concern over future where their energy is coming from. However, it appears that more favourable circumstances will make this winter less severe and will allow energy-hungry but resource-poor Western European economies to plan future energy
