Ukraine And Russia Agree US$130 Gas Price
October 2006 | Contract NewsRussia and Ukraine have reached agreement over the price Ukraine will pay for its gas, which should avoid a repeat of last winter's disruption and ease European concerns about the security and reliability of Russian energy supply. The price, US$130 per 1000 cubic metres (mcm), is a compromise between Ukraine's current rate of US$95/mcm and Russian gas monopoly Gazprom's demands for US$230/mcm earlier this year. The volume of gas delivered to Ukraine will increase to at least 55bn cubic metres (bcm). Although BMI sees this agreement as positive, we also consider it likely that the deal involves substantial political conditions
