Picking Up In Peru: Perupetro/Petroperu
October 2006 | Company SpotlightState-controlled Perupetro is responsible for overall regulation and licensing of the oil and gas industries in Peru. It also negotiates oil and gas contracts with companies to explore and/or produce in Peru. The country has five main refineries of which the largest is controlled by Spanish major RepsolYPF. Perupetro owns the other major refineries (operated by Petroperu). In 1993, Peru privatised its gasoline stations and there are IOCs active in the local market - although Shell is pulling out. US-based Maple Gas has a long-term lease agreement for the Pucallpa refining and distribution facilities.
