BBL Pipeline Adds To UK Gas Supply Options

The first commercial gas flows have begun through the Balgzand-Bacton (BBL) pipeline, opening up yet another source of external supply for the UK gas market. The Dutch owner of BBL, Nederlandse Gasunie, confirmed that operations began on the scheduled start-up date but did not give an indication of the actual flow rate. The pipeline is one of a number of supply options opening up for the British government, the result of a sustained programme of investment in anticipation of the decline of domestic North Sea gas output.
