EU Raises Concern on Russia-Algeria Ties
January 2007 | Industry NewsEU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs has stated publicly his concerns that growing cooperation between Russia and Algeria - the principal sources of the EU's gas imports - could have implications for consumer states. The move is somewhat surprising as, while EU energy policy is increasingly focused on security of supply, this is the first time that a European Commission (EC) official has openly suggested that the two producers may be prepared to coordinate price or output to the detriment of consumers.
