Bahrain To Launch First Offshore Round In May
May 2007 | Industry NewsBahrain will announce a shortlist of companies in May which will be pre-qualified to bid for exploration licences in its first offshore round. The government is putting up four offshore blocks covering 8,000sq km for exploration and, according to oil minister Abdul Hussain Mirza, some 70 international oil companies (IOCs) have expressed initial interest. Following the lack of major discoveries from existing exploration activity offshore Bahrain, we have doubts over the potential for significant hydrocarbon finds.
