KRG Oil Contracts Under Threat From Iraqi Government

Iraq says it will block oil and gas contracts that Kurdish regional authorities have signed with foreign oil companies, according to press reports citing Iraqi oil minister Hussain al- Shahristani. All oil-related contracts are to be dealt with by Iraq's central government, al-Shahristani was quoted as saying during a joint press conference in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart Hilmi Guler. Al-Shahristani said in November 2007 that he had cancelled about 15 oil contracts signed by authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan, according to press
