Jakarta Pins Future Hopes On Gas As Indonesia Quits OPEC
May 2008 | Industry NewsIndonesia has revealed that it will leave the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) at the end of 2008 when its membership expires. The news, announced by the country's energy minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, marks the end of Indonesian attempts to regain crude exporter status and the recognition of a hydrocarbon future based on natural gas rather than oil.
