Risks Increase Again As MEND Ends Ceasefire
July 2008 | Industry NewsThe Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has announced that it will end a ceasefire, which began at midnight on June 24, on July 12 at 2300 GMT. MEND said that its decision to resume hostilities was in response to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown's statement that Britain was ready to assist the Nigerian government's attempts to reduce lawlessness in the Niger Delta region.
