Pakistan Doles Out 41 Blocks In Record Licensing Round
October 2009 | Industry NewsThe government of Pakistan awarded 41 exploration blocks to 11 domestic and international companies on September 30 in its largest ever licensing round. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources had put 53 blocks on offer in the round but 12 of the licences situated in the restive Baluchistan region did not attract bids. Of the 41 blocks awarded, 25 are in Sindh province, seven in Punjab, five in Baluchistan and four in the North West Frontier Province. 20 were subject to an active, competitive bidding process, according to GA Sabri, the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum.
