Pertamina Expects To Gain Stake In Mahakam Gas Block

Indonesia's state-run oil and gas producer Pertamina expects to receive government approval by the end of April 2010 to obtain a 25% stake in the Mahakam gas block offshore East Kalimantan, a Pertamina executive said on 15 April 2010. The block is operated through a 50-50 joint venture (JV) between France's Total and Japan's Inpex, which are concerned that an increase in Pertamina's role would divert a greater share of Mahakam's gas towards domestic consumption rather than to the lucrative East Asian export market.
