The dramatic rise in Chinese oil consumption over the past five years is just one of many challenges for state-controlled producer and refiner PetroChina. The partly privatised company is seeking to maximise production from its domestic oil fields, while diversifying into international projects in order to secure long-term supply for China. More recently, the group has turned its attention to ensuring that adequate natural gas volumes are available for soaring domestic demand.
