BMI View: The m odernisation of Kazakhstan's refining sector will be key to reducing the country's reliance on Russian fuel import s and ensuring security of suppl y amid growing domestic demand.

Following years of comprehensive modernisation works aiming to improve the country's refining capacity and reduce emissions, Kazakhstan's redeveloped refineries are due to be completed in the first half of 2018. The modernisation of Kazakhstan refineries will boost the production of more valuable oil products and reduce the country's reliance on fuel imports from Russia, which has partly contributed to the temporary fuel crisis in Kazakhstan.
